URMC’s Lew Elected to GPA Board

Upson Regional Medical Center’s Director of Women and Children’s Services, Sybil Lew, was recently elected to the board of the Georgia Perinatal Association (GPA).

Lew is one of only 20 caregivers from around the state accepted to serve on the GPA Board, which focuses on improving pregnancy and infant outcomes and promotes perinatal health through education, collaboration and influence through state public policy.

Lew has more than 15 years experience in nursing, and is certified in high-risk neonatal care.  Prior to joining Upson four years ago, Lew worked as a neo-natal intensive care (NICU) nurse at Northside Hospital in Atlanta.  She is a graduate of Clayton State University and currently is pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration.

“Every mother deserves to have a healthy pregnancy, and every baby deserves to be born healthy,” said Lew. “Education and evidence-based medicine are key factors in ensuring good health from the onset for both mother and baby.”

Upson delivers approximately 650 babies each year.  To promote quality maternal and infant health care, Upson offers perinatal classes that cover nutrition, safety and pregnancy, breastfeeding, labor terminology, breathing techniques, inductions and C-sections, and what to expect after the arrival of your new baby.  For more information on attending the perinatal classes, contact Upson Regional at 706-647-8111 ext. 1146.
